THE LAND SHAPES THE SHOOTING

Driven game shooting in the Cambrian Mountains is defined by the landscape, and at Sweet Lamb the relationship between the land and the shooting is fundamental.

Steep valleys fall away beneath open hills, while ridgelines rise sharply against the sky. Streams, woodland, rough grassland and constantly changing elevations combine to create sporting terrain of remarkable variety. The valleys provide natural height, the hills create movement and the contours dictate the way birds approach the line, ensuring that individual drives have very different characters.

Rather than attempting to manufacture difficulty, Sweet Lamb makes use of what the Welsh landscape already provides. Pheasant and partridge can be presented from high ground, across valleys and over natural folds in the land, producing birds with height and pace and, occasionally, the ability to appear with remarkably little warning.

​

Conditions also play their part. A change in wind direction, a lowering sky or one of those wonderfully clear Welsh winter mornings can completely alter the way a drive performs and the challenge its birds present.

At Sweet Lamb, the landscape is therefore much more than a beautiful setting for a day's shooting. It is the reason the shooting has the character it does.
